News and Opinion Online
Welcome to the District 44 DFL news aggregator. We have created this page because so many of us have become disgusted with the quality of the local newspapers. Many of us have canceled our subscriptions and have turned to the internet for news and information. There is an incredible amount of information on the web but it is sometimes hard to find quickly and efficiently. So we have created this page with the intention of providing our web visitors with a single point to access quality news.
The premier news source is the New York Times. It has been the standard and, in this time of consolidations and ever more challenges to the print media, the Times remains the heavyweight news source in the world. If there were only one newspaper in the world I hope it would be the New York Times.
Unfortunately, even the Times has it’s biases and is quite euro-centric. So we have provided additional news sources that have their own focus and expertise. The Miami Herald is the leading source for Central and South American news. Additionally, the LA Times has in depth focus on Asian issues.
Simply the best liberal world-view paper is the Guardian. Based in the UK, the Guardian seemed to be the sole voice of sanity in the aftermath of 9/11. Check it out.
Finally, we felt compelled to provide the local standbys, the Star Tribune and MPR. Surprisingly, MPR, in conjunction with NPR, provides some truly terrific content from a local perspective to global. And, of course, we couldn’t be without a few links to the Strib. What would Sundays be without the pearls of wisdom from Kathryn Kersten?
The technology that is used here is called RSS feeds. What this means is that headlines from the news sources are fed directly to our website here. Unfortunately, not all news sources provide RSS feeds so we can’t use those that don’t have them on this page. We can put those sites on our links section on the home page.
I’m sure that there are other sources that would be worthwile additions to our site. If you have a source for news or opinion that would be interesting to progressives please let me know.
Enjoy!
